WINTER FRUIT FOR BABIES isn’t always easy to come by, especially if you’re looking for seasonal or local produce. Pears yes, bananas no (unless you’re enjoying Christmas in the tropics and if you are, we’d like to join immediately). Apples yes, oranges no (unless your baby is over a year or so, according to pediatricians’ advice). So we recently set our sights on a bunch of fresh plums. At least in Italy, they’re still fresh.
Easier than applesauce because you don’t have to peel them, the method is otherwise the same. Cut, core and put in a pan with a bit of water. Boil until tender (15-20 minutes). Add enough water to liquify in a blender or food processor (I always start with about 2 inches of water at the bottom of the blender). Serve, store in the fridge, freeze for later or all of the above.
